Summer’s here and your attic is getting hot. Even with all the appropriate venting most home attics get very very hot in the summer. Temperatures above 120 degrees are not uncommon. High temperatures can shorten the life of your roofing and add substantial heat to your interior rooms. If you air condition it adds to your electric bill.
Ideally what you should do is install a fan to draw hot air ouf of your attic and keep it and the rest of your home cooler this summer. You could hire an installer and an electrician to do the job. who knows what it might cost to get power to your attic. Or you could take the easy route and install a solar powered attic fan. A few hours work on your roof and you can be cooling your attic with free solar power. When the sun is out that fan will be running full speed pulling hot air out and drawing cooler air in through the roof vents. When the sun sets the fan stops. It’s that simple. This is a quick, easy, inexpensive way to lower your cooling costs and add years to your roofing materials. Fans are available in 850, 1050 and 1250 cfm sizes. To figure out the size you need multiply the square footage of your attic floor by .7 And there you have it
